The ability to populate my inbox with the Profile Pictures of senders by using "Auto Profile Picture" Add-on is the only reason I switched from other commercial email clients to using TB.
Keep improving this project.
Thank you!

Painfully slow.

Hi Noam,
I like this addon very much but noticed a few things:

- Your user- and project-page on Github are gone, so none of the links in either the addon-dialog in TB, nor the ones in the Mozilla-addon-rep work

- When using the addon on virtual folders, the profile-images are randomized, mostly defaulting back to my own Gravatar

Extension which adds something every other email client have automatically. But in the same time making TB very slow. So not usefull at all. How comes every other client have this feature built in and not slow at all?

Graphics really do Help.
Sadly it slows down Thunderbird to make it unusuable during work when you need to switch between emails fast.
A fix was promised and it was updated but this has NOT been fixed yet. I am uninstalling the extension sadly

I love this add-on. However, it makes both T-bird and B-bird way too slow to use. If there's any way to supercharge it (e.g., caching images), please do! Then I can give you that 5th star. ;)

This is the app Thunderbird needs the most. --Not sure how being the only email app without these features has gotten a pass for so long, but these features should be incorporated immediately.

This is the app that Thunderbird needs to integrate immediately. It's hard to understand how these features haven't already been included.

The latest version of the addon (2.4.1) should fix this issue :)

On regular thunderbird its laggy, on beta its fine. But latest ( 145) update beta breaks this extension. Doesn't work anymore. KInd of grey out profile pictures. All of them.

When a message is deleted the avatar of the underlying message takes on the previous one. So the deletion makes the message list shift up, but the avatar list stays.

The add-on works great for my POP3 account. However, I switched my email over to IMAP and it's hit or miss. Sometimes the avatars are displayed for the most recent emails, but then they often disappear.

Also, they are only appearing on emails in my Inbox from the past 2 days, despite being added more than 2 days ago. They do, however, appear consistently for the emails in my folders, even very old emails. Additionally, they aren't always correct in my IMAP account. For example, an avatar for Wells Fargo will appear on a Zillow email when they are next to each other in the Inbox

I would love to have this work because I heavily depend on avatars when going through email with other email clients.

Well done, this is just what the doctor ordered!

Can you please share some insights behind privacy and the data collected with this extension? Does anything gets transmitted anywhere or is it all local (e.g. extract top level domains, find picture)?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.3.0).

Thanks for your review! No data is collected with this extension and minimal data is transmitted to external providers (only the top level domain). Some external providers are used such as Cloudflare, DuckDuckGo or Gravatar, but with no to minimal data collection. You can have more details about the privacy issues here : https://github.com/noam-sc/thunderbird-auto-profile-picture?tab=security-ov-file#auto-profile-picture-privacy-policy

Ok, but Thunderbird working slow after instal this addon

Thanks for your review! This is indeed one of the main core issues I'm working on

I Love the concept but it's clearly not finished.

When scrolling the inbox the icons flicker
and when working on an inbox in 'card mode', like deleting multiple messages, the icons tend to transpose/shift.

One thing i'm missing is an option to adjust the size of the icons (small/normal/large)

Get this fixed and i will ditch outlook forever.

This is the only thing I needed to ditch Outlook and daily drive Thunderbird for good. Thunderbird looks way more friendlier with this extension (and it's way easier to quickly identify and sort emails)

I really liked this addon but for 2 things:
1. The profile picture was sometimes displayed chopped off. It looked like the original picture was much larger, and didn't get resized to show properly.
2. Most importantly, speed. I thought Betterbird was having severe performance issues until I tried without addons. Once Auto Profile was disabled, everything worked quickly again. I hope this can be addressed either in the addon, or maybe in Thunderbird/Betterbird.

Thanks for your review. For the first issue, if you could send me by email the sender you have a problem with, I'd be glad to fix it.
For the second issue, this is a known complex issue, doing my best on it!

This feature is truly excellent.
However, I am looking for an add-on that displays only BIMI logos.
If possible, I would appreciate it if this add-on could include an option to show only BIMI logos.

Thanks for your review and this idea! I will consider it for a future release

A most excellent contribution!
With something so obvious as profile pictures, one would this this would be the default in Thunderbird.

Nevertheless, and thanks to the power of addons and those who care enough to make them, open source software like Thunderbird gets to compete with expensive mainstream apps on Windows.
