How it works

Compose a new email in Thunderbird
Type @ followed by a contact name
Select the contact from the suggestion list
The contact is inserted into the message and optionally added to recipients

AutoMention adds an Outlook-style mention workflow to the Thunderbird compose window.

When the user types the trigger character (default @) while composing a message, the add-on displays suggestions from the user's Thunderbird address books. Selecting a suggestion inserts the contact into the message and can optionally add the contact to the recipients list.

Permissions usage

addressBooks – used to read contacts from the user's local Thunderbird address books in order to provide mention suggestions.
compose – used to read and update recipient fields (To, Cc, Bcc) when a contact is mentioned.
messagesModify – required to modify compose recipient fields.
composeScripts – used to inject a script into the compose window to detect the trigger character and show contact suggestions while the user types.
storage – used to store user preferences, license status, and a small list of recently used contacts locally.
tabs – used for communication between the compose script and the background script.

Remote requests

The add-on performs remote requests only for license activation and verification when the user activates AutoMention Pro.

Requests are sent to:

The request contains only the license key entered by the user.

No email content, address book data, message data, or personal information are transmitted.

Data handling

AutoMention does not collect personal data. All contact processing happens locally within Thunderbird.

Testing instructions

Install the add-on.
Open a new compose window.
Type @ in the message body.
Suggestions from the address book should appear.
Select a contact to insert it and optionally add it to recipients.

Pro features can be tested by activating a valid license key through the add-on options page.

Fixed an issue where a promotional footer could be added to outgoing messages without being strictly opt-in.
The footer is now disabled by default and can only be enabled manually by the user.
Minor stability improvements.

AutoMention is a Thunderbird add-on developed by Jolter / CBMTGO.
Data Collection
AutoMention does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data from users.
The add-on operates entirely within the Thunderbird email client and processes data locally in order to provide its functionality.
Local Processing
AutoMention may access the following information locally within Thunderbird:
Address book contacts (to provide contact suggestions when typing mentions)
Recipient fields in the compose window
Recently used contacts (stored locally to improve suggestion ranking)
User configuration settings
This information is processed locally and is never transmitted to external servers.
License Verification
If the user activates AutoMention Pro, the add-on performs a license verification request to the following server:
The request only contains the license key entered by the user in order to verify the validity of the license. No personal email data, contacts, message content, or recipient information are transmitted.
Third-Party Services
Payments for AutoMention Pro are processed securely via Stripe. Stripe may collect personal and payment information according to their own privacy policy.
Local Storage
AutoMention stores the following information locally within Thunderbird:
user settings
license key
license status
recent contacts list
This information remains on the user's device and is not transmitted externally.
