The Nextcloud integration can be used from the compose e-mail window, but before use a Nextcloud instance needs to be connected.
Connect: When composing an email, on the top right of the email window (next to "Attach"), click the "Nextcloud" button. Then click "settings", which opens the plugin's Settings. A "Nextcloud Server URL" can be supplied. Then clicking "Login with Nextcloud" will open a webpage where you can authorize Nextcloud for Thunderbird.
Share files: When composing an email, on the top right of the email window (next to "Attach"), click the "Nextcloud" button to either "Share Files" (upload or existing files in Nextcloud) or to create a "Public Share Folder". The latter will create a folder in which the recipient can upload files.

Core file sharing features work with a free license. Secure Share, Secure Mail, guest accounts, and custom branding require a license from sendent.com.
Features:
- Upload & Share Files — Select local files or pick existing files from your Nextcloud, upload them, and automatically insert a download link into your email. Supports large files with chunked uploading.
- Public Share Folders — Create a shared folder where recipients can upload and edit files, with a link inserted into your email.

- Privacy-First — Credentials are stored locally. All communication goes directly to your own Nextcloud server. No data is sent to third parties.
