What data is collected

Outbound Guardian does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data to the extension developer or any third party controlled by the developer.

What data is sent to external services

When you click Send on an email and have enabled checks, the following data from your compose window is sent to the OpenAI API (api.openai.com) for evaluation:

  • Email subject
  • Email body
  • Recipient addresses (To, Cc)

This data is sent only to the API provider you have configured, using your own API key. The extension developer has no access to your API key, your emails, or the API responses.

How data is stored locally

The following data is stored locally on your device using Thunderbird's extension storage:

  • Your API key (stored in plain text in Thunderbird's local extension storage)
  • Your model preference
  • Your check rules (condition and improvement prompts)
  • Enabled/disabled state

No data is synced to any external server by the extension.

Third-party API providers

This extension requires an API key from a supported LLM provider (currently OpenAI). Your use of that provider's API is governed by their own privacy policy and terms of service:

The extension developer is not responsible for how these providers handle your data.

Your control

  • You choose which rules to define and what conditions to check
  • You can disable checking at any time via the extension settings
  • You can remove your API key and all stored data by uninstalling the extension
  • No data is sent unless checking is enabled, an API key is configured, and at least one rule exists
