A good concept, however, when typing keyword search, creating folders etc, the T and U keys are always enabled making it impossible to do searches, folder operations etc., on the Mac.

This bug will be solved in Thunderbird 3. For the time being you can do the following as a workaound:
- When searching you can type Shift+T and Shift+U if you search case insensitive;
- Copy/paste the name for creating a folder from another application or compose window;
- (Temporarily) disable this extension.
