Why is this addon trending?
It's less capable than it's competitors, AdBlock Plus and uBlock Origin.
Here is how the addon works:
There is a list of ad-selectors included in the addon, as .txt file. The addon then simply filters elements that match those selectors. However, you can't control those selectors, you can't change them, you can't add your own selectors, and so on. There is now UI that allows you to change any of the parameters of this addon. This is especially bad if you are from a different country than USA or England, because then advertisement from websites in your language will not be filtered.
In contrast, AdBlock Plus or uBlock Origin give you total control over the selectors it uses. You can, for example, subscribe to a third party filter list that then gets updated automatically. And there are a lot of third party filter list out there, especially for websites of different languages. Plus you can turn the filtering off for specific websites.
If you think this addon is good, I would recommend to take a look at AdBlock Plus or uBlock Origin. These are WAY better.

This download manager produces corrupted downloads under some circumstances. There is a high risk of corruption for very large files (~1GB and up).
Although DTA shows a green tick indicating the download was successful, the checksum of the received file does not match the expected checksum in such a case.
I also tried other download managers (non FF-addons), and they worked as expected and never produced any checksum mismatch even for very large files.
So either DTA has a bug causing corruption to very large files, or DTA (unlike other download managers) is very sensitive to noise from my internet connection, or there is a bug in Firefox.
In any case, DTA's internal download component should be improved to be more robust.
I give 3/5 stars because DTA is without any alternative at the moment and the developers did a very nice job so far.

This is a great addon.
But it must be clear that running a powerful proxy server can become quite expensive.
So be aware that the addon developer might include other commercial / advertisement stuff in the future which is typically NOT announced in the changelog of this addon. (Like it was the case with this affiliate links in the current version).
I would recommend to turn off auto-update and reread the description before installing any update of this addon, because as I said the Terms of Service might change without announcement.
