would be perfect to add the possibility to preselect a template for reply / forward / new

It took me a while to figure out how to use this. For the benefit of others, and myself a year from now, if I've forgotten:
To create a template: open your favorite text editor and make a simple html file (example below) containing some CSS style rules, html tags and/or content. Save it to the folder of your choice. (I chose a folder in my dropbox, to make my template available on my desktop and my laptop.) Choose this folder as your default path in Stationery Options -> Default folder.
To use your template: when composing a message, right-click somewhere in the body of the message (with the Edit tab active), and choose Change Stationery. The first time, you will have to choose the "Other Stationery" folder, but after that the template will be listed as one of the choices. Alternatively, you can hit the drop-down arrow next to Write or Reply and choose a template or "Without Stationery."
The next time you compose a message, whatever template you used in your previous message will be in effect, but you can switch as described above.
Note that you can edit the template while in your message draft, by going to the Source (HTML) tab.
Now for a sample template, intended as a starting point. You may put internal style rules inside the head, but they won't show up in gmail; therefore I used inline styles.
<html>
<head></head><body>
Outline template that will work in gmail
<ol style="margin: 0 0 10px 12px; padding: 5px 0 0 10px;">
<li style="margin: 0; padding: 4px 0;">item one</li>
<li style="margin: 0; padding: 4px 0;">item two</li>
<ol style="margin: 0 0 0 15px; padding: 4px 0; list-style-type: lower-alpha;">
<li style="margin: 0; padding: 0 0 4px 0;">sub one</li>
<li style="margin: 0; padding: 0 0 4px 0;">sub two</li>
</ol>
<li style="margin: 0; padding: 4px 0px;">item three</li>
</ol>
normal text
</body>
</html>

Thank you for this plugin.
Feature Request 1: Since I use so many templates, I would really love to see folders available from within the template manager. I would like to be able to create folders and place templates inside that folder. This also means that, when selecting a template, you could browse and click through the subfolders, rather than having a single, lengthy list of templates. Without this ability, I will likely have to use "Other Stationary..." to select from folders in the resulting browser. I am grateful for this ability, as it serves as a work-around for the lack of folders within the template manager.
Feature Request 2: The only other thing this tool does not offer which TB's own templates offer is a way to save the subject of the email with the template. It would be great if this were possible with this plugin. Perhaps some code in the HTML, or an option within the "Manage Templates" section.
Other Feedback:
Apart from those two things, this plugin is exactly what I was looking for in order to maintain templates for Thunderbird by referencing an HTML file. This is faster when making updates to templates, as opposed to opening each template in TB, highlighting all, inserting HTML, saving as a template, then dragging that template to the folder I want it in.
Definitely 4 stars! 5 stars with folder capability and subject pre-fill!

I made a lot of email templates but I didn't know how to use it with Thunderbird. This is excellent! 5 Stars! And keep up the good work.

After installing the program I had no stationary and the instructions for making a template was no help.
With much fiddling, I discovered I could make a template by clicking "write" then in the open letter click "options" then "page colors and background".
In the box choose "page colors and background" then "choose file". You can then choose a image file like .jpg and select it then it will appear in the box, click ok and it will then be on your letter. then click "edit" and choose "save as" and select "template" from the drop down and you have a new template for your stationary.
This works well and the possibilities are endless but choose a background image that will not hide your letters.
Nice add on once you figure out how to make a "template".

A great extension, but I have a problem with loading time, when i compose a new message.
I have a large number of fonts installed on my system, and it takes more than 10 seconds until the compose window is completely open.
Could you add the option to disable the actual look of fonts?
Send me email arivald@interia.pl, if You wanna test new beta version, with some fixes regarding performance.
Basically I try to move as much work as I can into background, including code to setup font faces. It could help or not, it must be tested in real environment.
If this not help I will consider adding new option.

A missing part of TB. Some doc about writing templates would be helpful.

Great extension. One question, is there a way to specify where the cursor should go to begin entering the message? Also a sidenote, I found an odd situation where I needed to have the images NOT be embedded, but instead be linked to. Checking the docs, I found that adding moz-do-not-send="true" to the img tag will ensure that the image is not downloaded and embedded.

I have two suggestion:
1. Please add a dropdown button "templates" to the reply/forward window panel, it could be the first one, near the Body text dropdown. If yu use 2 and more templates it is not really productive to have to click a few times in contet menus.
2. Allow to set a default template, so using a different one does not set the other by default.
Thank you very much!
For point 2, just disable automatic management, and Stationery will never reorder templates. First template is always default.
For point 1, I do not exactly understand what You want. Can You contact me at arivald@interia.pl, and describe it? some images could help too.

Great great add-on.
But it'd be better if you could link every template with different accounts. When you write a new message from a specific account, the associated template should be used.
I don't know whether my explanation is correct. Sorry for my bad English. ;)

I have enjoyed this add-on for quite awhile. It is quite good, what would make it even better would be for it to handle .eml format stationery as well as exe. and zip formatted ones.

I consider myself to be a reasonably intelligent person. However, after downloading and installing this add-on I found myself asking "OK, now what?."
I use XP Pro with TB 10. I envisioned being able to select templates, modify them with personal data and get started.
That's not what I experienced and am now concerned that, with all the bug reports, this add-on falls short for the normal TB user.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.
What is so hard?
Stationery add-on works like Stationery feature in Outlook: load HTML file as template for mail. There is a lot of templates to download, a lot of tutorials how to use templates, and how to write templates...
For example, tutorial here: http://thundercloud.net/help/tbird-new.htm

Hi,
I use Stationary since many years. Great AddOn! ...unfortunatly, since last TB update (10.0.2) I get an error. It works fine when I start writing a mail with my stationary. All images from the template are in the Mail.
but when I like to send the mail, the images in the template can't be found anymore.
When I just pull a pictrue from desktop into the mail, it works. Any idea?
It is well known TB 10 bug. For details see https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=714825
Basically, to make Your mail work again, remove all links with "skype:" or "tel:" or similar.

When I create new message (File -> New->Message) thunderbird delay for a while until give me access to edit message window. If I have opened Contacts Sidebar (View->Contacts Sidebar – F9) in edit message window then delay last much more.
I tested it on clear Thunderbird (without any extensions, just clear program) and if I disable Stationery everything work fine, but enable Stationery cause described problem.
This delay occur only one (at first create new message after open thunderbird), every next create new message do not cause this problem.
My system:
- windows 7 ultimate 64bit
- thunderbird 9.0.1 portable
- stationery 0.7.7
In previous versions of Thunderbird and Stationery (I’m working on Thunderbird 3.x and Stationery 0.6.1) this problem doesn’t exist.

this add on works well - useful for a standard template for all emails. Thanks!
the only problem i have is i can't find a way to have different templates for different accounts (like some old Thunderbird add-ons did). this would be a great feature for future releases.

Excellent addon. Easily one one of the best and indispensable features that make Thunderbird truly useful.

Nice addon, but with Thunderbird 5 it causes signatures to malfunction - when composing new mail, if you change account in the "From" dropdown, the new signature is added underneath the old signature rather than replacing the signature. Disabling Stationery fixes the problem. I hope you can fix this soon.
Questa recensione riguarda una versione precedente (0.7.3) del componente aggiuntivo.You should blame TB developers for this problem.
Basically, TB code to update signature when identity change, always assume that signature is at end of message. If there is anything after signature, then this code fail to update sig properly, regardless of my extension.
When i got some time I will investigate how to fix it... But it may be problem, because original code is C++, and can not be overridden in extension.
Personally I prefer to embed signature in template, so I select signature by selecting template.
