Private Tab

@jsmithson:
"Question: In the newest Firefox 42.0, they've added some anti-tracking features to private windows. I assume that works in private tabs too, but I'm not sure. Does anybody know?"
Tracking protection does not work in private tabs. It's easy enough to check, and I just did: Load a page in a private window. Click the address bar icon. You will see "Tracking Protection" there. Now load a page in a private tab. No "Tracking Protection" entry.
Avira Browser Safety

I love Avira. I'm licensed through 2020 for 3 PCs. But this extension is not very good.
It blocks and warns on perfectly legitimate web sites. PayPal.com is just one prominent example that I've encountered and seen other users report in their forum. There are many other examples, but I'm not interested in posting my browsing history online.
The price comparison feature is annoying, and never useful. I also find it an odd choice of features to add to a security-oriented extension. It also makes me feel spied upon, because clearly someone, somewhere is watching my online shopping.
The search result feature seems to only work with a few major search providers, such as Google and Bing. This makes the feature useless to me, because I care about my privacy. I don't use Google or Bing; I use Ixquick.com, StartPage.com, and DuckDuckGo.com.
And lately, it doesn't block or even detect any trackers at all. When it did, I found it didn't block many by default. I'm not sure if that was by design. You had to go in and manually enable blocking, AFTER the tracker already loaded and ... did its tracking. This is a terrible design. And like I said, the tracker blocking feature doesn't work at all anymore, unless the "0" I keep seeing on EVERY site is incorrect.
Remove the price comparison feature (your greedy partners can deal with it; customers should come first). Fix the tracker feature. Make it block by default. And stop blocking legitimate sites!

THANK YOU, JORGE! I have been looking for a way to do this, and it was bothering me. Now, I've removed all plugin permissions in one shot. Great!

Would be clunky and inconvenient even if it worked, but it didn't work on any site I tried it on.

I found it blocking certain images on amazon.com. The images were coming from images-amazon.com. Temporarily allowing all requests resolved the issue. So, RP must be blocking something that would show in the list of "Blocked destinations", right? Wrong.
Why wouldn't it? Because it's not smart enough. I had to dig to find out what was going on, and create a rule with origin ssl-images-amazon.com and destination images-amazon.com. This was the first and only site I've visited since installing this extension, because apparently privacy and security is supposed to become a full-time hobby.
I recommend installing it along with NoScript so you can stop wasting time enjoying the internet, and devote 13 hours a day instead to configuring Firefox extensions.

This extension (or, more accurately, the Mozilla Plugin Check web page) confused me when it kept telling me that Flash was out of date, yet no update was available. Turns out it was trying to look out for me. There were Flash 0-day exploits out there, and no update yet available. At least I knew something was up. Thanks.

I have two issues with this extension:
1. The icon displayed is counterintuitive. I would expect the smaller one to indicate that I was the sole receipient, and the larger one to indicate that there were multiple recipients. Obviously.
2. It only supports the default email address for the account. If you receive email at more than one email address (e.g. with a catch-all; domain owners will know what I mean), those email addresses are all ignored.
Edit: I appreciate that the extension supports identities. But why depend on identities at all? If an email has a *single* recipient, why not show a single-recipient icon? Why must the recipient be known to Thunderbird? Couldn't this at least be an option? I use an utter slew of identities, and I receive mail at all of them. Only one of them is an identity known to Thunderbird.

A brilliant extension that eases a longstanding problem for control freaks and tweakers like me.

"Deselect on Delete" is not a "real replacement" by any means. That extension has no options, and only works when a message is deleted. This extension allows you to click away from a message (without deleting it), and stop it from being displayed in the preview pane.
NetVideoHunter

I tried almost all of the audio/video download extensions that are available, and this one (to me) is by far the best. It's not the most feature-crammed, but it's the easiest to use, and the most reliable. Click the status bar, then download.
Unlike the extension I had been suffering with for months and months (Why? Don't ask.), it doesn't present a slew of entries for each video, with most or those entries being invalid, time-gobbling nonsense, causing me to download partial videos that don't play at all. It doesn't aggravate me with stupid menus that flicker and don't work as expected. It doesn't inexplicably miss certain files.
It just works. Imagine that.
The only problem I have with NetVideoHunter is the delay that occurs when the status bar icon is clicked. (On my system, it takes several seconds for the NetVideoHunter window to appear.) But the author has told me he's working on a fix for that issue.
Thank you!
YesScript
Assegnate 5 su 5 stelle
I love this extension; it does exactly what I want (I guess I'd rather be "naive" than paranoid and constantly aggravated and inconvenienced!). My opinion on NoScript aligns perfectly with that of Wladimir Palant. But this isn't NoScript, of course--it's YesScript!
A couple comments:
- I didn't notice the status bar icon added by YesScript at first, but it's handy.
- I wish the YesScript blacklist allowed for basic subdomain wildcards (implied or explicit). Currently, I usually have to add a domain as "domain.com" and "www.domain.com" to make sure it's always blocked.
