I tried to edit my previous comment to add the following lines, but was unable to do so. Hence this additional comment:
Lately Thunderbird became extremely slow. I couldn't do anything properly. Typing a few words into a new mail took minutes, trying to move a mail into a folder was trying my patience. I finally disabled mailclassifier, and suddenly everything worked fine again. Thunderbird was quick and smooth again. There still needs quite a bit to be done on this to work meaningfully. With hits less than 5%, and such an impact on Thunderbird's performance, it can't be good.
I admit that I have many (sub)folders. But that can't be the reason for the addon not working properly. I'll remove it and hope for a better version in the future.

Worked great for a bit. Now it just locks up thunderbird on startup. It consumes 100% CPU and hogs ram to 300MB+. I eventually have to shut down and boot in safe mode to recover. I hope a fix is applied soon. I love the program.

I'm unable to use this extension, TB binary starts to consume almost 100%, when starting the classification on a folder, it advises about the Javascript getting hang.
I tried to use it on an IMAP account, with hundreds of folders, and thousand of mails, TB is 3.1.8
A pity, because this is a promising add-on, and it would make that manual sorting task much easier.

I've upgraded to TB 3 and really miss this extension!
This extension has literally saved me tens to hundreds of hours over the years i've been using it!
It correctly learned where I filed all my mail,
then 1-click and it would file each mail to the correct folder.
Without it, i'm accumulating 100's of emails in my In-box, and really don't want to spend my time filing each one laboriously.
Please update this for TB 3 :)

I loved this extension for v2.0 of Thunderbird. Any chance this will be available soon for version 3?

This is a great idea. However, it doesn't seem to work on my computer. I am running Thunderbird 2.0.0.21 in Ubuntu.
It seems to slow down Thunderbird quite a bit, but maybe that's because of the close to 1.000 emails in my inbox? After restarting Thunderbird, all the classifications of my emails are gone and I have to start the classification over. It doesn't seem to classify new messages; it only works when I tell it to classify the entire inbox.

Easy, intuitive, and fast handling:
Make forget the uncomfortable fitting of TB filters (no alphabetic order, no backup, multiple clickings etc pp).
Just a smooth right-click, and everything is cleared up.
And gives a much better feeling about daily email load.
Thank you

...I've moved on to Shredder. Is a Thunderbird 3.0b/pre support a possibility any time soon?

Great extension. I would love to see it built-in.
I think it just lacks "Classification -> Clear" option to allow clearing of the false results, and then bulk move the rest.
I guess explicitly stating certain messages are not of any of the available categories could improve the filter, also (just like with the junk filter).

Haven't been able to figure out how to make it work

The world really needs this, at least I do. It save me time sorting and moving messages with a single click. It would be really nice to be able to reclassify in the inbox without moving to a folder as well as more options for training like looking through email folders. Great start, I can't wait for version 2.0.

I've been using this MailClassifier for 6 months now to sort all my email.
It's accurate for 9/10 emails and integrates seamlessly with Thunderbird.
It uses less resources than PopFile, and does not slow down after months of training (unlike my PopFile experience)
Supports POP3 and IMAP seamlessly - something PopFile requires plug-ins for.
I still use the Thunderbird built-in classification for Spam though.

Great, very usefull program, especially when one gets lots of mail daily

The idea of this plugin is great. Automatic classification of mails instead of creating filter by filter - or to live with the mess in the inbox.
But after several days (even weeks?) of training the rating still feels as if being made by random. Mails either don't get categorized or get categorized wrongly.
Missing features:
* Give a chance to reset the database.
* Give access to learning statistics (some look into the inside)
* "Unlearn" a mail: Currently you can only set a new category for a mail which has been placed into the wrong category. But if you just want to delete the category, there is no chance.
I will watch the updates... perhaps this plugin gets better. Meanwhile I will switch back to creating filters manually. It's much more robust although I still hate the filter management of Thunderbird.
