My Reviews

DownThemAll!

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

The premise of this program is convenience, right?

DownThemAll!'s advantage is to be able to line up 2 or more file for unattended downloading. Just how well it did that made it my favorite add-on. There are welcome improvements in v2. Unfortunately there are some changes that I would have preferred hadn't have been made.

Not all files have a descriptive name. For instance, just what is dhvvin556.rar? When multiple files are finished downloading, we need a method of locating just what it was that we downloaded. To do that I do the following:

To find the folder name [and thus the location of the file just downloaded]
Alt+I or right click on a file to get Download Information, Save files In:

Old DownThemAll! - The file info appeared.

Version 2 - the little window appears with 2 tabs & the one containing the most useful information is second, requiring an additional mouse click every time. Not so bad but the program is all about lining up many files and that means many extra mouse clicks. Inconvenient.

In FireFox, getting many files on a page without getting them all was easy. Right click, keyboard 'n' with the other hand [keyboard shortcut], and the 'Add Downloads' window appeared. Many files could be set up in a short time. That was convenient. Now, though, that option has been removed. Upon right clicking, an additional mouse click is required. Again, not so bad but the program is all about lining up many files and that means many extra mouse clicks. Again, inconvenient.

At the bottom of my screen is a taskbar. DownThemAll! offers % completed, finished/total, & speed. They used to be visible just by looking. Now, though, the words Current Speed have been added causing the actual speed to be out of view. I now need to hover the mouse pointer over the info to see it all. Not so bad but the program is all about convenience and that means many extra mouse moves. Once again, inconvenient. Besides, if the user doesn't know that the information there shows current speed, they must be very new and they should RTFM.

The additional Inconvenience is great enough to desire a return to the previous version.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0.1-signed).
