It's the best. The momentary substitute is Single Key Shortcuts: https://addons.mozilla.org/es/firefox/addon/single-key-shortcuts/

I've just discovered it but immediately love it. Saves much of time browsing around.
It would be more excellent if there's a key for switching between current tab and most recent tab (like Cmd + Tab, Ctrl + Tab for apps).

So simple but extremely handy and working perfectly in IceDragon v22 Portable.
Thank you.

A helpful add-on to migrate from Opera. Altough a little slow on my FF22.I'd suggest author to add Z and X single key shortcuts to navigate in history.

I agree with ttaapp: This add-on is "Very useful, does what is says, and is unobtrusive."
I've been using Single Key Tab Switch for a couple of years, and it's worked great with all the many versions of firefox until the latest, 15.0, which doesn't work at all for me. The problem I'm having with firefox 15.0 has been reported on the issues section of the homepage. Hopefully it can be fixed. BTW, changing tabs with SwiftTabs add-on isn't working for me either.
Reviews and Ratings are not for technical support requests. Based on what I've read in "about this add-on" descriptions, most developers don't monitor their reviews on a regular basis or to look for support requests. If you are having a problem, let the developer know using the support link, contact link, or though the add-on homepage.

About the tab skipping issue I wrote about before; false alarm, it was another addon causing the issue.
However there is another glaring issue that makes this addon unusable: When typing in some text boxes, if I type 1 or 2, it will switch tabs, making it impossible to type 1 or 2 in said text box. This may not happen with all text boxes but if you want to test this issue for yourself, just try in the diablofans.com forum. Opera does not have this issue with its single-key shortcuts, as it won't switch tabs if a text box is highlighted (which is how this addon should behave)
Ultimately I cannot use this addon until this issue is addressed.

Very useful, does what is says, and is unobtrusive. BTW, I don't agree at all with the two previous commenters:
1) The name is SINGLE key tab switch - you get what it says, and that's perfect.
2) A dialog is superfluous for keyboard users :-). It's a once-only setting anyway.
3) After opening links with middle clicks in new tabs, this addon lets you jump to them, SwiftTabs fails as long as the link is "selected".
Finally, a feature request: Two more keys, one for the first and one for the last tab. :-)

SwiftTabs works better. It provides much more controls..

Two things that need to be improved. 1. Single key is too dangerous. There should be an option for key combinations. 2. Using about:config to select keys is lame. Needs a simple dialog to do this.

Excellent. This is the one feature i sorely missed from Opera when I switched to Firefox back in the day. Having to stretch my fingers for more then one button feels very clunky. This one worked perfectly - and on the 4.0b as well.
I would request you extend the functionality also to have Z and X be Back and Forward respectively. Having CTRL-Z reopen the last closed tab would also be neat. These are the remaining shortcuts i miss and which are easier than the default Firefox's.

Wow, this add-on is simply amazing. Does exactly what I want without any issues. I've struggled searching for add-ons to customize hotkeys since every update of firefox would break the addon I use at the time (surfkeys, keyconfig, etc). Thank you!
