This addon was good when it was up-to-date. Since there wasn't any Multi Process Compatible addon for copying plain text, I made a new one

For anyone considering this plugin, I have "re-created" this abandoned plugin. Here is the official Mozilla Addons link: [ https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/copy-as-plain-text ]. My plugin works fine in Linux, windows, and on Mac too. As of Nov/24/2012, it supports installation up to v20.0a1.
If you want a version that goes up to v1000, see my post on the plugin's dedicated website here: http://forum.infas.net/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2 My plugin officially supports Firefox, Thunderbird, and SeaMonkey, however it is under testing for other platforms such as Nightingale, etc.

If you want, I made a bumped version working until Firefox 9. You will find it here: https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=961dc53580315d8d&sc=documents&id=961DC53580315D8D%21102. Beware! There's a french translated version (-fr), and an english one (-en). Make the right choice!

I downloaded it from http://linux.softpedia.com/progDownload/Copy-Plain-Text-Firefox-Download-21892.html It says Linux, but it works equally well on Windows 7. Click on "xpi (Softpedia Mirror RO)". Don't accept the automatic download, that will only try and fail to install it. Instead, right click on "click here" and chose "save link as". I then opened it in 7-zip, right-clicked on install.rdf and chose "edit". In the opened file, look for "em:maxVersion=" and change it to em:maxVersion="7.*". Close the document, and when you get the dialog "File 'install.rdf' was modified. Do you want to update it in the archive?", choose OK. Then in FF, choose open file and find the copyplaintext-0.3.5.xpi where you saved it on your hard drive. It will install like any other addon. I used the same procedure for FF5 and 6, and it worked fine in those versions, just as it does in FF7, at least so far (two days).
Oh, and if you have the old version still installed, you'll have to begin by removing it.

This is one of those add-ons you can't live without.. Any body has any ideas on a compatible "copy plain text" with Firefox 7.0
Thanks,
Sam

This extension has become one for me that I can't do without. Unfortunately doesn't work with ff7. Another reviewer had posted an updated xpi that worked well with ff6 (thanks for that btw), and thought I'd try in ff7, but wont install. If you have a way to make this work in ff7, please post it. Thanks

Many thanks for the link - http://dl.dropbox.com/u/52174/copyplaintext-0.3.5%20-%20FF6.xpi
Really cool plugin!! Don't forget to set up the settings of the plugin (I turn on all checkboxes, because all of them very useful).

Does work niceley with Firefox 5.0. A very simple, but very useful little addon.

With Mozilla's new accelerated rollout of 3 months for each version, I think it is smarter to set maxVersion to 9, no? Or even better, can I change it to more than one digit?

Here's a version of the XPI where I've changed the maxVersion to 6.0:

where you did the changes for FF5?
If I change the install.rdf and repack to *.xpi, Firefox says file is corrupt.

Also works with Firefox 5 after changing install.rdf as described by vladimirr. Verry nice ;-)))

copy_plain_text-0.3.3.1-mod
Works with SeaMonkey 1.0 - 2.1.*, Firefox 2.0 - 3.7.*, Thunderbird 2.0 - 3.1.*
For latest versions of browsers edit maxVersion in install.rdf
