I guess, 'Mailbox Alert' could be a replacement.

This was a five-star program that I've used for years, but TB version 68.3.1 broke it. I really miss it as I always glanced at the toolbar to see if I had any new messages in my inbox. Is the developer still here? Are there plans to make this work with the new TB versions? Anybody know of an equivalent add-on that changes the color of the task bar button with new mail?

Doesn't work with version 68. Even changing the rdf file

Works with thunderbird 60.9.0 32 bits from 60.2.1 and upgraded version by version 60.3.3, 60.5, 60.7 et 60.9 by hand , no with automatic upgrade
Perhaps it's possible to go from 60.2.1 to 60.9.0 directly but i have not tried

HowTo for enabling this addon under 60.2.1 (probably it will work with other versions too):
1. Download addon as a *.xpi file
2. Open addon in any archive manager or use Midnight Commander to go into.
3. Edit file 'install.rdf': change field "<em:maxVersion>7.0</em:maxVersion>" to "<em:maxVersion>60.*</em:maxVersion>" (if you need another version - use this link to find a valid version https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/pages/appversions/)
4. Open Add-ons Manager, click on "gear" button and choose 'Install Add-on From File...'
5. Click 'Install', enjoy your life and say 'Thank you, dude from Russia'. =)

Auto disabled when TB updated to 60.3.0 (32-bit) on November 8, 2018. Hope you post a working update soon.

I really didn’t want to write this as a review, but there seems to be no other contact option anywhere for feature requests etc.

So … What I’ve been hoping for for a long time is something that works like Outlook, where the new mail icon is superimposed over the application icon in the taskbar using an icon overlay. This is “politer” than the flashing amber, which suggests that the program actually needs something from you right now. (I realise that in Vista and earlier the notification choices were pretty limited, but for anyone using Windows 7 upwards (I’m in 10) it would be nice to have a more elegant solution :-)

"There was an error downloading New Mail Attention"

And since there was an error DOWNLOADING it, why are you leaving a star to my extension? This is an issue with Mozilla, not with New Mail Attention.
Anyway, you can download the.xpi file from addons.mozilla.org (https://addons.cdn.mozilla.net/user-media/addons/191033/new_mail_attention-1.2.1-tb+sm.xpi?filehash=sha256%3Afc7a3098ee2159a77d87956ed13bf8db71b3995f3d906063862cf047f2d1f6c1) and install it in Thunderbird selecting "Install Add-On from file".

Doens't work in Winsows 8.1 x64

Just tried with mine and I can assure you it does. Could you provide me some more information on what you do to assert it doesn't? Thank you

Like this Addon really much!! Thanks for developing it.

But, there is alwayss a but :P I'd like to have custom color notification per account or folder. In a post 5 years ago, you already said, it is depending on the system color. But is it possible to get somthing like that working? Would be appreciated really much!!

This new mail Add-on actually works and is the only one that does 100% of the time, and that includes Thunderbird's own notifications have never worked properly. It would be an even better add-on if it had pop-up and sound options, here's hoping.

Works great. Only flaw I see so far is, when both clients (outlook , thunderbird) are open and the mail is already read in outlook, it'd have been better if icon highlight would just turn off automatically.

The Thunderbird built-in notification often fails. But this one does not.

Using thunderbird, when a mail arrives, the thunderbird rectangle in the panel obtain a green border.
It does its duty.

The option for "compatibility for Minimize to tray plus" does not work because "Minimize to tray plus" has been replaced with "MinimizeToTray revived".

Funktioniert sehr gut unter Windows 8.1 und Thunderbird 24.3
