It would be great to have more options:

- choose address books to import birthdays for
- look backwards for a customizable number of days
- blacklist contacts

Unfortunately, not all birthdays in my adressbook are imported to Lightning.
But all birthdays are displayed correctly in the birthday list at startup.
Is the Brithday Reminder still supported by the developer?

I've just recently discovered this neat addon and when I took a closer look at the age displayed in the Birthday Reminder Popup I realized that the age is off by one year:

@author: Did you accidently initialize the age variable wrong or did you make a mistake in the count loop? This should be easy to fix, don't you think? :-)

Using TBird 8 on Mac 10.5.8

Hi, Ms. Mousette,

could you provide a little more detail - the information you provided does not really allow to diagnose the problem... Please mail me at birthdayreminderbeta (at) googlemail.com..

Thanks a lot,
Sebastian

Hello,
I upgrade my UBUNTU with 11.04 and have now TB 3.1.15.
Birthday Reminder 1.0.6.5 seems no compatible.
Regards.
Alain

Alain,

the Thunderbird Version 3.1.15 is quite old - please update to a current version, or use version 1.0.5.2 of Birthday Reminder (see https://addons.mozilla.org/de/thunderbird/addon/birthday-reminder/versions/)

All the best,
Sebastian

I really like this add-on!
Remembered me of so many birthdays since I used it first time years ago.

In FF7 it could offer to have a permanent birthday list as a tab, couldn't it?
And with the popup list: it only pops up when TB is (re-)started. However, if you send your PC to sleep without closing TB and open it next day it will not realize that a new day is there and not remind you on the birthdays there.
And I think it only sends 1 reminder email for the first name even if 3 people got birthday on the same day.
As one before me said, it might be useful to have maybe the option to highlight certain people in the list that you should really not forget. Maybe.

Otherwise I still find the Add-On great and highly useful!

Great add-on, but I miss the deletion of the lightning calendar entry, when the contact is removed!

A great plugin, especially when combined with the "More Columns for Address Book" plugin!

The ability to synchronize with Lightning Calendar is also a huge bonus. (Personally I find the "big list" of birthdays useless)

Enhancement: I have a lot of contacts, and for a lot of them I might know their birth date, but not really care to be reminded about it. Perhaps the ability to have Birthday Reminder choose a "subgroup" (user specifiable) to get it's reminders from might be better? (i.e. I might have a group called "Friends" and "Family" where I'd get reminders, however the group "Acquaintances" I don't really care to see reminders.

A Birthday reminder is an absolut must for my calendar. Just the anniversariy-dates will not be includet into the calendar.

Thanks to Grant Kaufmann that created the xpi for me I uploaded it as a new addon (as I can update this one as this is not mine)

We have still no news from Sebastian Apel that created this addon, but at least with the new add-on (exactly same code, just working with lightning), everybody can now use it on the latest version.

There is now a working xpi created by Grant Kaufmann based on the changes I made on the v1.0.4.2.

However I can't upload it to this site for any reason (probably because the ID of the extension corresponds to one already existing, as this is exactly the same code as Sebastian Apel)

I can still provide that updated Add-on. Just send me a mail and I'll provide it, until, Mozilla allows this updated version to be put online

This add-on works quite well and is configurable to let you manage all of your friends, family, and coworkers' birthdays and anniversaries. It works with "custom fields" in the address book or with with "MoreFunctionsForAddressBook" add-on. It can even sync with your Lightning Calendar add-on which is significantly more useful providing more control over reminders (snoozing & dismissing).

NOTE: Version 1.0.4.2 no longer syncs with the latest version of Lightning Calendar (0.9 at the time of writing this review). Thanks to user "kduytsch", he provided a code update and I've tested it and it works for me also. I'm sure once Sebastian has the time he'll release a new version supporting the new Lightning API. In the meanwhile contact kduytsch or myself for an updated working copy.

Hello there,
this is a reply to the "Doesn't work - full stop" comment... (although I have nothing to do with the development of this add-on - I'm just a happy user)

The "Birthday-Reminder" is about a persons next birthday (hence the reminding - not to miss the day).
In your example: On your next birthday (in 309 days - when you took the screenshot ;o) you _will be_ 24 years old. "Age" may not be the perfect title for the field - but it definitely contains the relevant information - since you probably don't want to see the age they'll no longer be when the big day arrives...

In any case - I think your "Doesn't work - full stop" comment is slightly off.
Best regards, Sebastian
