My Reviews

Rise of the Tools

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Brilliant extension, combined with a theme that kills the Chrome-style title-bar, Thunderbird is now usable. You have helped save my sanity.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.1.0).

Silvermel

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I'm not mad about the icons, but using Thunderbird without Silvermel is a harrowing experience. I absolutely hate the Chrome style combined Title-bar/Tool-bar/whatever of the default theme and generally the default theme sucks and hurts my eyes. With the Rise of The Tools extension Thunderbird is actually usable again. Thank you!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.5.1-signed).

about:telemetry

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Interesting little plugin. I've always wanted to be able to view the data Telemetry submits, and this allows that. It would be nice if it provided some info as to what the data actually means, but at least I'm now able to view it easily. https://wiki.mozilla.org/Performance/Telemetry provides an overview of how Telemetry works. Interestingly, there seems to be very little detailed documentation about Telemetry that is easily available. It seems to be a case of trawling through source code, blog posts, Bugzilla comments and IRC logs.

Trueblock Plus

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I applaud the sentiment behind this addon and hope it will become a viable alternative to Adblock Plus, but as long as it retains the advertising code of Adblock Plus 2.x, I cannot use it.

I will continue to watch this addon with great interest and hope it develops into a real alternative. Until then I will continue using Adblock Plus 1.3.10

Silly, pointless and great fun :)

Disable Add-on Compatibility Checks

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works as advertised. Now I can use the last decent version of Adblock Plus with Seamonkey 2.6.1

EDIT 20 January 2012 : It also allows me to continue using my favourite Firefox theme in 9.0.1

Mostly Crystal (for Firefox)

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The best Firefox theme ever. I use this on all my computers, Linux and Windows and it looks perfect under all OS's and Desktop Environments I have used. I have been using this since the days of Firefox 2.0 and unlike many other theme developers, CatThief can be relied on to keep Mostly Crystal compatible with the latest version of Firefox. The website is also a treasure trove of hints and tips on how to use the many options of Mostly Crystal that can be accessed by hacking userChrome.css .

Aquatint III

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Aquatint was always in my opinion the best of the Aqua style themes. The others were too Aqua, and not enough Firefox. Aquatint always struck the right balance. I don't want firefox to look like a generic application. I want it to be recognisable as Firefox, but not an eyesore, and Aquatint has always done this perfectly, when it has been available.

It is a great pity that such a good theme has been abandoned so often by its developers. It is good to see it picked up again, but please, don't get bored and drop it like your predecessors,

BBCodeXtra

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This has to be the most useful general-purpose extension for Firefox - bar none!

I use this daily and find it invaluable. Far better than labourisly typing in markup by hand, or worse, using the often broken rich text editors many websites use.

My wish for this extension would be the addition of user-definable tags and maybe Wiki markup. Otherwise, it fills all my needs.

Thanks!
