Thanks a million David Francis or whoever did this!

Excellent plug-in for a great free dictionary. The update of 20 September 2016 fixes the latest search URL change.

Thanks. Apologies for not getting it fixed sooner.

Last week this was the best English dictionary search tool on the web. Now it is useless. Something to do with URL? Needs fixing.

And please, blokes, don't give low marks because of temporary problems: those are not reasons to spoil the add-on's reputation.

OED is the best online dictionary ever, but it doesn't have an official search plug-in, so I'm very happy to have this one.

Very useful add-on, so glad this is available. Big positive that it offers etymological info, and clear distinction between US and UK spellings / usage.

(Lost point for the fact that the link breaks periodically and searches no longer work.)

Thanks Branais. I uploaded a new version last month to correct the problems you mentioned. Is this the version you are referring to, or the older one?

I use this regularly and it has worked well the whole time. But now it seems to be in need of an update - the link to the dictionary is no longer valid

I noticed that, too. I upload a revised version last month. Have you tried the upgrade yet?

I've been using this for nearly two years and I love it. The search results may not be as fully featured as their subscription service or even Dictionary.com but at least it's in proper English not American English.

I disagreed with de Wtp so strongly that I downloaded this add-on immediately. I'd been waiting for Mozilla to review it because I'm not sure I'd know what to do if something went wrong. Several people have downloaded it without feeling the need to come back and rant - so I gave it a go.

Oxford Dictionaries (formerly AskOxford) website does indeed offer a free search. This add-on allows you to use it from your toolbar.

It installed easily and I looked up two words (hardly a thorough test I know but if I leave it then I'll lose the page for writing my review). It's really convenient to be able to look up a word in a dictionary without having to open a web page first.

David Francis, you've recently appeared on the scene with a few online searches, and you're very welcome.

As much as I love the OED and friends, and *hate* their cost (I mean, why shouldn't they GIVE me a copy of the leatherbound ed. of the OED III when it appears) I have to question this one. Oxford Publishing gives very little away, nor would an add-on be necessary if they did - a simple trip to their web site will give you the price of a sub. to the OED III, in-progress, on line, hardbound sets, and their latest release, the $150 or so OED II + Supplements ($150).
When someone offers an expensive Something fornothing, I get concerned,
