KeywordBar

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I really like the keyword bar, used it a lot in the past. Please adapt it for Firefox 3.0.1

Or is there any other extension that provides this functionality --- an alphabetical listing of all keywords across all bookmark folders?

Hi. I'm hoping Stefan or another savvy poster can help with this.

I'm running Thunderbird TB 2.0 and Firefox FF 3.0.1. By default TB is configured to open a new tab in the current FF window in response to clicking a URL link in a TB message. Sometimes this is exactly what I wish to do, but often it's not. When I right-click the link, there are no acceptable additional options presented in the context menu, as in SeaMonkey.. I've tried many approaches to remedy this. None work so far

I installed Linky 2.7.1 (linky-2.7.1-fx+mz+ns+nv+tb.xpi) as a TB add-on. This was immediately suspect because the latest revision date is March 2006 and it claims to work with TB 0.5 - 3.0a2pre! Nevertheless I installed it in TB2. It appears to be installed properly and there is a configuration window appearing under Extension Options for Linky which appear to work. So with some surprise and disappointment I can see NO changes or additional functionality offered in the TB message viewing window/pane. The right click context menu is no different from the default.

So I happily discovered Stefan's highly acclaimed new revision Linky 2.7.2.6 (linky-2.7.2.6-fx+mz+sm.xpi) on the Thunderbird Add-Ons Linky review page. Repeat: Thunderbird Add-on page. But now I see something isn't making sense. When I go to Stefan's page at http://www.smart-roadster-club.de .... I see this: "Works with: Firefox 1.0 - 3.0 Beta 5 (and hopefully 3.0 Final also), Mozilla Suite 1.0 - 1.7, SeaMonkey 1.0 - 2.0a1pre (and hopefully 2.0 final also).

FF 3.0.1 is not listed, and there is NO THUNDERBIRD compatibility claimed at all. Nevertheless, I attempt to install it in TB2 and yes, it was an impossible dream. "Linky 2.7.2.6 could not be installed because it is not compatible with Thunderbird."

Is this everyone's experience, or am I doing something wrong? Turns out I CAN successfully install Linky in FF3, which is very nice, but doesn't solve my primary problem with TB. I have Nightly Tester Tools - perhaps I can override this - but I think I tried that and it didn't work.

I also tried installing a different TB extension "URL Link 2.02.2" for TB which does not seem to work either. It installs in TB, allows the setting of options, but there are no new choices presented in the right-click context menu.

Just tried installing Launchy 2.7.1 (TB add-on from same original developer) to see if its a possible workaround to enable choice of opening either tab or window in FF3, etc. Can't see how to do it so far. Launchy also appears a bit buggy. It appears correctly in the right-click context menu when right clicking a link - but only in the message pane view - beneath the main message list - NOT at all in the individual message view window (the one opened when a message from the main list is double clicked.)

Most of the other TB extensions seem to work OK.

Sorry about the density above. I'll be very greatful if anyone knows a simple solution.

(B.T.W. in order to get this listed at all I had to choose a rating - so I'll say 4 stars - in the hope it will eventually work great. Also could not post this as a "bug report" as advised since Stefan's extension is not supported by the original Linky developer.)

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.7.1).
