Great addon. Can the size expression allow filtering by bytes(in addition to KB,MB,GB)? I have some small attachments that differ not much by 500bytes and I would like to filter them. Thanks!

That extension should definitely be a part of TB and Klaus should get paid a decent fee for that. At least Mozilla team should contribute to it officially. Hey @google, can't you also contribute to this opensource project? That's the must-have of every TB user, replacing clumsy native filtering system.

It's add-ons like this that make me wonder how anyone uses any other email client. This powerful search tool saves the day!

This is the plugin the keeps me using Thunderbird.
Without it I would have already switched to Outlook.
I simply do not understand why this is not part of the core Thunderbird release cycle. In terms of search it is so much better then what comes by default with thunderbir. It is a complete different league!

Expression Search- NG is the best email search engine.
It has so many ways of ferreting out specifics from emails that other search methods lack.
It does of course mean reading the page of instructions to get the best out of it, but the developer has really put some intelligent thought into coding this.
Naturally with each iteration of Thunderbird, the Dev needs to play catchup as new features on Thunderbird can break compatibility, but it is certainly worth continuing to support the development of this programme, as well as supporting Thunderbird itself.
I would recommend to the Devs of Thunderbird to work with OPTO (the Search-NG Dev) so as to make each release as smooth as possible for the user.
It would be a sad day if we had to rely only on the blunted abilities of other email clients.

Just downloaded the shiny new version 4.0.0 for TB 115 and very happy to use and test it. Thanks a lot for the work!

This is the must-have extension for my thunderbird!! It's not functional without it. Klaus, any timeline in mind for 115? Really regretted upgrading it, as I can't use it now... I'm considering uninstalling 115 and installing a older version for this extension...

Expression Search is indispensable for my daily work and - as apparently for many other users - one of the main reasons why I remain loyal to Thunderbird.

It is all the more annoying that Expression Search does not start almost every time I start Thunderbird. Only when I deactivate the add-on via the extension management, activate it again and then close Thunderbird and restart it, the Expression Search window appears correctly.

As long as this (apparently long known) phenomenon does not disappear, my willingness to financially support further development is low.

I am sure this the world's best search tool but for the lack of instructions. Type this type that instructions are given but no hint as to how to run the damn thing in the first place :-( After all that hard work its a shame not to provide such essential details.

The extension works for me on macOS 11.7.4 and Thunderbird 102.8.0. However, I had to uninstall and reinstall the extension twice (including restarts of Thunderbird) before it actually worked. After the final reinstall I got to see an "Add-on Options" icon (a spanner) in the Add-ons Manager that was not there when the extension did not work.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.8.10).

the spanner/wrench problem is actually a TB problem (not addon), as I learned a few days ago from TB developers.
Another workaround is to close the addon tab and to reopen it. Then, the wrench comes up as well.

Addon broken again, does not work with latest TB versions.
This addon is the only reason I use Thunderbird... Come on guys! Please...

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.6.3).

I totally apologise.. but .. this is unpaid work. If Thunderbird updates break it, that is not my fault and should not result in 1 star reviews.

I am currently working on some new features and it works fine on Win 11, 64 bit, latest 102 version (102.7.1), so it might be an interaction with other addons, or it might be MacOS, which is not supported.

Can you give more information? Preferably on github, where a detailed exchange of problems and solutions is possible?

TB102 and several previous versions: This Addon is damaged: cannot search subjects.
I moved to /addon/search-for/ which seems to work these days.

I've used this add-on for years. It worked perfectly and was very useful. But for some reasons it does not work anymore. I've a Mac and v 102.5 of Thunderbird. I've tried to uninstall and re-install the add-on many times, but nothing.

Doesn't do anything. I have hundreds of emails tagged "followup", when I search for tag:followup it finds nothing. It tells me to hit return again to expand the search to all folders, so I do, and it finds nothing again. Uninstalling.

which operating system and TB version? Can you give more info in the issue section on github?

I've hated the standard TB search facility so much that I've had all incoming mail copied to gmail where the search is so much better! But that's only incoming mail, not outgoing. Expression Search is the ultimate solution. Powerful and so easy to find elusive emails. Wish I'd known about it years ago.

It's great, but for some reason it stops working every now and then. For the people that can't get it to work at all, try installing it from the add-on page: https://addons.thunderbird.net/nl/thunderbird/addon/expression-search-ng/?src=ss - that seems to make it active.

I just plain can't get it to do anything. The search works exactly the same as it ever did. "from:john" only finds emails with the string "from john" somewhere in them.
