My Reviews
gContactSync
Rated 2 out of 5 stars
I encountered some major problems when using this addon:
1. Thunderbird froze completely during the first sync; I had created a new address book for my Google contacts. After about an hour I decided to kill the process. On restart, I discovered that only about half of the Google contacts (220 of 420) had been transferred to Thunderbird, no changes to the Google contacts were made.
2. The add-on creates dummy email addresses ("nobody....@nowhere.invalid") for contacts without any email address. This is seemingly just a work-around for a bug in Thunderbird (see http://www.pirules.org/tikiwiki/tiki-index.php?page=gContactSync+FAQs). However, it is very annoying: I can't see at one glance which email addresses are missing and when using the autocomplete function in the address bar it comes up with the "fake" addresses.
3. It creates new fields for phone numbers like Work, Mobile. Unfortunately, the phone numbers were mostly put into the wrong categories. This might be due to MoreFunctionsForAddressBook (https://nic-nac-project.org/~kaosmos/morecols-en.html), another extension that I've been using for years and that worked fine with other sync programs (e.g. MyPhoneExplorer).
I decided to uninstall the add-on immediately - maybe I'll give it another try when TB3 (with the new address book) is out. (btw I'm using TB 2.0.0.23)
