I think one of the most important features of Google Calendar is SMS Reminder and with this extension you still need to start a session in google to change the reminder because it's not possible to select reminder type from Sunbird through the extension.
This reduces drastically its functionality.

Love this plugin. Now that alarms work better with reoccurring events, it is much better!

Good add-on if you use Google Calendar.
However it is not possible to modify the nature of reminder which is a bit of a problem since I mostly use SMS alert.
I hope this will be implemented in the next version!

Great app, exactly what I was looking for, and integrates very easily. However it doesn't integrate entirely, since alerts set in google don't show up in sunbird. I'd really like to use Sunbird primarily, with google as my online access and backup, but I use SMS alerts all the time, and need the ability to set and see google alerts in sunbird.

To be honest I am unsure on what to do in order to make this addon work. I've downloaded it, installed it on sunbird and now what? There is no options on the addon and no help file in this addon page

This works really well with Thunderbird Portable- I just had to recreate my calendars with the Google Calendar option and not the iCalendar option I had used before.

Last update disabled this plugin. The 'help' where to file a bug is insufficient. That why I paste it here.

THIS IS AWESOME!

retraction: I'm an idiot It seems I had inadvertently grabbed my iCal link instead of my XML link when setting up Lightning and GCal. It works like a charm now. Fantastic!
A great idea that I was very excited about until I found it doesn't work with Portable. I get errors telling me I can't write to Google, then the task notification pop-up goes all wonky. It's nice that I can SEE my Gmail calendars, but it makes it all the more painful that I can't alter them when I know others (non-Portable) are!
Please don't use reviews for technical support. There is a support forum if you are experiencing problems.
I just installed thunderbird portable from portableapps.com, installed lightning 0.7 and the provider 0.3.1. Everything works fine, adding events works like a charm.
Please use the support forums for further questions.

This is an excellent extension, both for Thunderbird and Lightning. My only problem: the calendar refresh process can take a while to complete (10-20sec) when you're syncing with several online calendars, during which Thunderbird is using 100% CPU and is completely unresponsive, even for mail composition.

From looking at the quality of the Google Calendar extension i can see that you must be a very skilled developer.\r\nWould you be interested in also creating an extension for syncing the gmail contacts?\r\nIt might be easier now, since google has released an API on March 5th for this.\r\n\r\nSee also:\r\n\r\nhttp://googledataapis.blogspot.com/2008/03/3-2-1-contact-api-has-landed.html
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.3.1).I'm sure there is much interest in doing this, but I have a lot to do and won't have time to do so myself.
There is a 2008 Google Summer of Code Project that can be applied to to make it happen, and as I have heard there are already interested applicants.
