This kind of restriction becomes a necessity when Thunderbird's functions are extended to accommodate project management, general administrative tasks and client record keeping. Especially in case of the latter, it is necessary to secure email content from preying eyes. The'Master Password+' extension "locks" Thunderbird when not actively uses after a predetermined time. This sometimes is a schlep when, e.g. compiling documents from email content, because 'Master Password+' locks Thunderbird down and you have to login to continue using Thunderbird. But it is a small price to pay for keeping sensitive email content private.
