I used to have problems downloading larger files due to unstable internet connection - the files always stopped some where in-between. DownThemAll solves MOST of that problem (some servers do not allow partial downloads so there's really nothing that can be done) and it resides as a plug-in in Firefox... I don't have to install another program for that. :)
