Great extension for the old thundebird, it would be very good job if someone could upgrade it as webextension (Thunderbird 6 and up)

Tbird 2.0.0.23 linux + MessageID-Finder 2.0.0
Modified the install.rdf with 2.0.0.23 in max version and installed using tbird/ tools/ install function. I could only get the context menu by R clicking a MID in the source view, not the message header. After accessing the context menu, selecting find by message id, and selecting the proper news account - there was no result; the message did not come up. The preferences for the plugin were modified to open the message in a new window, but no improvement.

This extension is one of the very few that I find indispensable when using Thunderbird. It helps me to easily find a message by using its Message-ID and it uses several methods to do so. I really wish the author would consider updating it so that it works with Thunderbird 3. In fact, its not being compatible with that version is one of the main reasons I'm not upgrading to TB3 at this point in time.

I "updated" it to 2.0 and use together with "Extended Normal View" headers, where header References: 1, 2 etc. is visible (see Mnenhy: http://mnenhy.mozdev.org/customheaders.html), and clicking on these references looks-up messages correctly, which is my main and most useful use case of this add-on.

I did the modify of the .rdf file so I could install this add-on in Tbird 2.0.0.16. "Find Message-ID" context menu entry is not shown when right-clicking on a message in the header list pane. Shows up only when right-clicking in the body of a message (message view) or the Message-ID header in the header pane of the message view pane. Okay, I get that, you have to get the message to then find out its Message-ID. However, "Find Message-ID" doesn't work when right-clicking in the message or source views of the message. You get the context menus for "Find Message-ID" but nothing happens when you use them. Right-click on a message header (after retrieving it) doesn't show the "Find Message-ID" entry in the context menu there. You have to right-click on the Message-ID header and then use "Find Message-ID". So I got it working under a specific usage. Then I went into its options. It lets you select a default search location (I want to use Google Groups to provide a URL that anyone can use to see the post). What's the point of configuring a default location when the context menu never lets you use one? You still have to select a location from the context menus. I'd also like a means of deleting some of the minimal selections, like Google DE.

oops, the tags where cut, not escaped.
the right code (without "special" symbols):
em:targetApplication !-- Thunderbird --
Description
em:id {3550f703-e582-4d05-9a08-453d09bdfdc6} /em:id
em:minVersion 0.6 /em:minVersion
em:maxVersion 1.6 /em:maxVersion
/Description
/em:targetApplication
and replace "em:maxVersion 1.6 /em:maxVersion" with "em:maxVersion 2.0.0.* /em:maxVersion"

instead of:
- find the line 2.0.0.XX and replace XX with the your version number
do:
- find the code:

{3550f703-e582-4d05-9a08-453d09bdfdc6}
0.6
1.6

and replace 1.6 with 2.0.0.* or whatever version you like :-)

You can update this fine add-on yourself to use it with later versions of TB (i currently use it with 2.0.0.12):

- open messageid-finder-2.0.0-mz+tb.xpi and modify install.rdf
- find the line 2.0.0.XX and replace XX with the your version number
- save the file and reinstall msg-id finder

I used emacs to modify the file (emacs can open .xpi out-of-the-box), but any other unzip software should do as well.

If you want to trace references in newsgroups, this is a must. Please update this extension to work with the latest version of Thunderbird!

This extension is a real time-saver. I found no bugs with it other than that it needs to be updated so that it will work with Thunderbird 2.0. To that end, I will say that I've used Mr. Tech Local Install to enable it and it works just fine with TB2.
