Great poem describing the color conundrum.
I will always support the cause for color accuracy! Firefox could use an update to the latest ICC standard, but good that it supports the use of color management and monitor color profiles, which are the key to this dilemma. Both artist and viewer must use hardware-calibrated monitors, if colors are to be accurately conveyed. The same hex coded color can look different if one or both monitors are not calibrated and viewed with software that uses a custom color profile created for that monitor.
Your eyes are not reliable either - you must use colorimeter hardware and software to adjust the monitor and create the profile. If you think you can trust your eyes, see the amazing image in this article: http://www.ppmag.com/reviews/200511_rodneycm.pdf
Oh, and "Pro-Test"... clever!
