I hate that I have to leave a star rating to comment, because as someone else mentioned, this WAS the best YouTube downloader for Firefox. Based on the comments at Glimmersoft, it looks like he has to start over from scratch because of the changes YouTube has made. Without going through EVERY YouTube related plugin on Mozilla's Addons list, I'd say https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/youtube-video-download-convert/ is a possible substitute, though not with quite all the same functions. I will very happily come back to the Podcaster when it's updated, though!

Like the others, I noticed that it stopped working recently. It happens - FF changes something or YouTube changes something, and it takes some time for the addon to catch up. It's not as if they send out notices ahead of time, especially since YouTube would certainly prefer to make it impossible to download anything.

That said, the below suggestion to try the Developer Channel beta version was an excellent idea. I switched to that version, and the downloads showed back up upon restart. They're a little odd; the MP3 format downloaded the video and everything (which works okay, though it's weird to have an MP3 video), and the Full HD MP4 came out glitchy and truncated (which doesn't work, but the MP3 gave me video...) I tried renaming the extension to see if the MP3 video still works as an MP4, and so far it's fine. It's a bit roundabout, but maybe this detail will help refine the update.

A suggestion for future options - perhaps the clipping could be made to work at either end? There are frustrating videos with long silences at the end instead of the beginning, and it would be nice to be able to easily cut the dead air off.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.8.3).

Downloads YouTube video and audio very simply; I used to use the in-page links it added to the YouTube page, but haven't seen those lately - may have been removed in favor of the Toolbar button, which gives all options. Sometimes have to refresh the page when I've clicked on another video in the same page instead of opening a new tab, because the button menu won't automatically update to the current video. My security program doesn't like how much it calls other resources, (ffmpeg, mp3enc...) but once authorized, it saves the files just fine.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.2.0.1-signed.1-signed).

The inline links can be added back from the tools menu. Go to Tools (Alt-T) Youtube MP3 Podcaster -> Options and uncheck "Hide controls on youtube.com". :).

We're working the refresh issue. It's cropping up more with the new changes to youtube :P
