It does not seem to work any longer with manually editing the install.rdf file since Thunderbird 52. Very sad.

Well its not working for version 39, and so on. But who needs this extension, you have to edit it. And works fine. How to edit : http://kb.mozillazine.org/Editing_an_add-on_to_change_its_compatibility
You have to change 3 files. Put 46.* for example. Be careful in the all operation of renaming files etc.
Please note that, in contrast to this review, Ignore Aero does have some major bugs in current versions of Thunderbird (for example in the toolbar for HTML formatting). I thus intentionally did not mark the theme as compatible with TB 45. If you can live with these bugs, that's great – you're welcome to bump the theme's compatibility if you want to :)

Well, I promised the author I'd rate this theme and today is the day. This is the best theme currently for TB for those who want TB to look like it used to look (I tested TB45 yesterday and it reverted to the default theme - oh my, how ugly can this get?! Is is SOOO ugly!). I personally prefer the TB2 icons to the TB3 icons, but there are bugs with the Classic TB2 theme and the author has gone silent on me quite a while ago. So I have been using Ignore Aero (along with Rise of the Tools of course) for a very long time now and it is really great. 5 Stars! PS: This is not working with TB45 as of yet.

Muss man doch glatt Sterne abziehen.

It felt so bad to see TB spread all over the screen after installing the update due to Ignore Aero not working anymore.... Needed to revert to 38.7.2... :(

There is no better Add On for Thunderbird IMO, but it currently cannot be used past TB38.7.2 [last of the compatible non-beta releases]. I currently use TB38.7.2 at home but was forced to drop Ignore Aero at work when TB45 was adopted. A pity; I would gladly donate to Ignore Aero's future upkeep if the developer were to add a donation button here. Ignore Aero has all the details right: right-sized and colored icons for Read/UnRead, Forwarded/Replied, Junk column, Signed and Encrypted email, the tool buttons are clear, good contrast of text on backgrounds throughout, subtle venetian blind background in the message area, and the vertical spacing allows more folders to be listed at a time than any other skin (very efficient use of space) - Fantastic! Works well on a laptop screen. There are no icons that are overly large, bright, or distracting from the main purpose of using the tool, which is a common problem with the other skin Add Ons. I use small Icons Beside Text, and these Extensions: CompactHeader, Rise of the Tools, Allow HTML Temp, and Theme Font & Size Changer. This set up supports heavy professional use of TB, which I would not say about TB45's default appearance. It boggles my mind that with current display technology someone at Mozilla thinks the monochrome look of TB45 Default is a good idea for a serious email tool user. Mozilla should incorporate this skin into its built-in options, as it largely mimics how Mozilla originally created the look themselves.
" I do not understand why other users awarded 5 stars for a malfunctioning add-on. " I rate this 5 stars for use on TB version 38.7.2. Functionally it is superb; I do wish it would be updated for newer TB versions.

schnell.

I could, but don't want to get used to most of what I can't get without Ignor Aero, but I really miss the Venetian blind effect highlighting every other email in the list.

I will second this idea - founding the update and further development would be a nice way the say Thank you to Ignore Aeros developer!

...not working anymore with TB 45. For those like me who needs this them, why don't we fund this update and help rsjtdrjgfuzkfg to work on future updates?

Today Mozilla "treated" me to TB 45 without the Ignore Aero theme.
Others stated it before me, but I as well was shocked to see the real TB theme.
I have read that you are busy, but know that at least I am looking forward VERY MUCH to the moment you can spare those 2 days of work for the upgrade.
Today I realised again how happy I am with your excellent!! theme.

As you have already said, due to breaking changes the theme might be as well written from scratch, but do we really need that? Releasing the source to the public (not in the form of xpi-obfuscated zip archive, but a github/bitbucket repo) could save a lot of hassle both for you and your users. Many of those would love to contribute and they probably already can by sending you another email with a zip of the corrected source code, but there's a cleaner and more fun way :)
The source code within the xpi is not obfuscated (if you have an obfuscated one I'd guess someone put adware or other malicious stuff in it and tries to hide the fact, but I guess/hope you just didn't open it up?). I don't see how investing time to bring it to some of these platforms helps the theme, though; as I could also use that time to work on the update. A public git repo means that I'd feel the need to think way more about repository structure, build system, etc. I don't think publishing a repository without build instructions and proper documentation is a good idea.
Oh, and now reading your review's title: The source code is under MPL 2.0 (http://www.mozilla.org/MPL/2.0/), so you can fork it and/or send me patches without any legal hassle.

Would love to see this updated for TB 45. I've been using it so long I forgot how hideous standard TB is. The best theme there is, can't wait to see it back in action :)

BEST theme for Thunderbird!
For rsjtdrjgfuzkfg: I know that right now you do not have time, but as soon as possible PLEASE UPDATE this theme!

Just upadated to Thunderbird 45.x and this wonderfull addon isnt compatible. Please update for v45.x.
Planned since February, but unlikely to happen soon due to real life work; there have been incompatible changes in Thunderbird breaking themes, which means I need 1-2 full days to basically re-write the theme from scratch (and right now I cannot afford that). Sorry!

I've been using this theme forever & it's been great - but it seems like with the latest version of TBird, it breaks the chat window. Viewing archived chats looks fine, but starting a new one results in a messed-up chat pane with two tiny boxes in the upper-left of the pane for the chat, instead of the usual full-pane with a split near the bottom.
Last update was 2013, so I'm not sure if it's still actively maintained.
UPDATE: changing my rating to five stars - cheers to the developer for continuing to maintain this plugin. Seriously, I tried using TBird without it for a few days, and I couldn't do it. It's like Darth Vader's mask... You're really curious, but when you finally see the horrifying mess that's underneath it, you can't put it back on fast enough.
While "actively maintained" is an overstatement, I'm still here. 1.1.0.0 got through review today, and 1.1.0.1 is on the way due to a stupid mistake on my side^^
Either way, your issue should be fixed in the 1.1+ versions.

Sehr empfehlenswert!

Great add-on, solved the slow scrolling issue I have had with Thunderbird for some time.
Personally I also prefer the non-aero look, I don't understand the need for glitzy graphics. Be good if Thunderbird had the built in option to disable 'themes'.
All best Colin
