I had written a review commenting on how this add-on was causing my email to be detected as SPAM. The developer contacted me and explained how I had the "Junk Travel Time Filter" enabled which caused checks that took too long to be reported as spam. I have turned this off and it did solve the problem. I am impressed with the professional and timely response to my review and am very happy to have the feature back.

It stopped to work few days ago...
Connection Failed to SyntaxError: JSON.parse: unexpected end of data at line 1 column 1 of the JSON data!

Sends details of your e-mail senders IP-addresses, and also other personal info to their service... bad privacy unfortunately.

See the privacy policy: https://www.mailhops.com/privacy/

EDIT:
Well, this is quite broad and vague... hence my low star rating:

"We may get information about how and when you use the Services, store it in log files associated with your account, and link it to other information we collect about you. This information may include, for example, your IP address, time, date, browser used, and actions you’ve taken within the application."

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (4.3.0).

MailHops uses IP addresses from the email headers to do GeoIP lookups, there is no personal information sent.

Sorry missed somehow that IPv6 works...

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (4.1.1).

IPV6 hosts are looked up, do you have an example?

Works well with TB 68.12. Doesn't work with Thunderbird conversations add-on. Sorry for earlier review.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (4.1.1).

The first screen shot shows you where the MailHops Button appears and is located in the upper right in the message header buttons above the time.

Need a version compatible with TB 78.2.1

It is logging every mail you open directly to /var/log/syslog !!!
Leaving a trace there. Using last thunderbird version.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.8.0).

This plugin does not log anything to syslog, not even sure that would be possible. Send me a screen shot if you would.

very useful but unfortunately very buggy add-on: its preferences don't get saved and, more importantly, when the addon is active the message window stop resizing when in vertical view layout so the message get cut.
A real pity because there are no other similar extensions compatible with actual thunderbird versions

(I'm running the actual Thunderbird version 68.10.0 64-bit)

Fonctionne EN PARTIE. Pas de mémorisation des préférences. Il semblerait que l'inscription pour une API soit obligatoire. Et ce n'est gratuit que le premier mois...

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.8.0).

It is free for 100 messages / day. Which I think works for most people. There is cost for an API key and more messages, like any service that helps a little bit to pay for servers. Thanks for trying it out.

Nice Add-on. Only it disabled the Add-on Quicktext for me. I had to deactivate and reactivate Quicktext after installing MailHops. Only then could I use both add-ons at the same time. https://github.com/thundernest/quicktext

Hi, thanks for letting me know, I will look into this and see if there is anything I can do here.

It doesn't tell users how to use it.
I couldn't make anything happen. There are lots of links to the developers' site, but no information as to how that fits in.
Useless without this basic information.
n.b. it's certainly not the only add-in for TB that requires guesswork or luck to be able to use them. Why can't devs say what to do with their precious code, rather than puffing the add-in's advantages without letting users know how to use them?!!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.7.2).

Thanks Terry, I have updated the description to hopefully make it more clear. I could also update the screenshots but those should make it clear where it shows up.

Functions nice, works well. A little bulky in the mail preview pane though. Overall a good plugin, EXCEPT. You should be up front that there is a monthly cost. For some they might find the monthly cost as a good amount for the functionality. But, for me it is not a plugin that I really need for $5/month.

Add-on *was* reasonable and occasionally used when it was hidden. Now the add-on has an obtrusive banner (adverts next no doubt) that cannot be hidden. I've toned down the nasty default colours but I reckon a few more days will see it deleted. Shame, was good but the developer has blown it.

EDIT: Now bar not hidden on Win7, but is on XP. Tbird v45.7.0 on both pc's. Same versions (latest) of compact headers and mailhops on both pc's. On Win7, tried disabling all addons and enabling these two one at a time. No joy. I haven't checked it on my Linux box yet. Is there a better forum for feed back than this review area?

Thanks for fixing this! I'd still rather not have that gaudy banner across the page when the header is expanded, but at least it's hidden until I decide I want to see it.

Previous:
I'm using 3.01.
Like previous reviewers, I've used this addon for years with no complaints., Now suddenly it's in my face and I don't like it. I don't care what color it is, I want it hidden in the header bar where it used to be. I also use the compactheader addon, is it that these two no longer work together?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.0.1).

You can now hide the MailHops bar with CompactHeaders

EDIT - Thanks so much for the new option in a later version of v.3 to hide the toolbar when using CompactHeader! That was primarily what bugged me about MailHops 3. This is the 2nd time the dev has been responsive to a problem I had with the extension - very impressive! Back to 5 stars as a result ;)

Previous review:

I’ve been using MailHops for as long as I can remember and find it very useful and generally well-done. But, like the previous review from flagpole, I found the new toolbar to be too much “in your face”. It also has a dark font on a dark background for me, not sure why as the screenshots show a white font.

I use the CompactHeader extension, which worked fine with MailHops. If I wanted to see the full headers including MailHops, all I had to do is double-click the header or click its little + icon.

Nevertheless, I reverted back to v.2 of MailHops as the toolbar just made trying to read emails, especially the subject line, rather too difficult with this glaring dark toolbar immediately below it. I also don’t need the toolbar for every single email I get, I only need it when I want to check a particular email, which isn’t often enough to warrant having the toolbar show all the time. Perhaps there could be an option to not show the toolbar and to revert to how it was in earlier versions (or, if using CompactHeader) to only showing it when clicking the little + icon)?

Thanks for the feedback, with the next release you will be able to set the style of the bar. hope this helps.

The addon is great. Really useful information, it's an extra layer of security. I often think why would Her Majesty's Revenue & Customs be emailing me from Tehran. However...

The 6th Jan 2017 update made it very obtrusive, it's basically the main thing you can see in the TB window. I wish devs would understand that there stuff is not as important to me as it is to them.
(following update, and dev response this is now fixed. yay)

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.0.0).

Also, thanks for the feedback, with the next release you will be able to set the style of the bar, that is change the bar color, font size and font color. hope this helps.

I've installed the addon in Postbox, I have inserted the API key, but doesn't work in the sense that the information don't appear in the message. Do I need to make some additonal configuration?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0.0).

Postbox is a bit different, the MailHops data is in the sidebar (or inspector pane), not the message. Open the Inspector Pane by going to View > Show > Inspector Pane (Shift + Command + I)

This is an excellent!

Highest kudos to the author, Andrew.

This is a must-have plugin for anyone using Thunderbird or FossaMail. (For those not familiar, FossaMail is a 64-bit version of Thunderbird created by the same folks who made the Pale Moon Browser. It is much faster than Thunderbird on 64-bit machines, as Thunderbird only comes in a 32-bit flavor.)

I do have a feature request/suggestion:
- To have Mailhops just add a new header to the email source that contains the summary of its "Mailhops Route" information, especially the country of origin. If it's not something you want to have enabled by default, possibly add an option to turn this on?
- That would allow users create custom filters that could be used to stop spam. For example, there is one country we never do business with that keeps sending spam emails. If the Mailhops Route shown on the front end was added as an additional header in the email source, it would not be an intrusive addition, but it would help immensely with spam blocking.

Thank you and keep up the great work!

UPDATE 2017-05-17: Thank you for using my suggestion, and adding the Country-based tagging and anti-spam capability. We now integrate this into our anti-spam filters. Outstanding. Keep up the great work!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.12).

Thanks for the suggestion on the header filter. I have gotten this before and looked into building this but haven't figured out how to add a header on an inbound message. It is definitely available on an outbound message. Any help would be great, https://github.com/avantassel/mailhops-plugin
