Pattern on traditional Shweshwe cloth from South Africa is the Hadeda ibis which is found throughout Sub-Saharan Africa in open grasslands, savanna and wetlands, as well as urban parks, school fields, green corridors and large gardens.
This bird has a very distinctive call and is often heard before it is seen. It is a loud, harsh, raucous "Haa-Haa-Haa", or "Haa-Daa-Daa" call—hence the name.
