F.B. Purity - Cleans Up Facebook

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

... and this is one of them. At present I don't know you from Jack and I don't take chances. Yes, you have a great reputation, but when the only way I can get a working version of your add-on is to get it from somewhere other than here, I'm concerned. Even if I have no question about your integrity, I don't know if the server it's on is secure, and so on. Avoiding a possible disaster is more important to me than convenience.

Of course you have a job which most likely takes well over 40 hours/week of your time and energy. Working on an app (a good one) is more than laudable. Donations will most likely not be sufficient to replace the need of having a job, but ... it might not hurt to let those who use the app know that you need a least a small donation to have the motivation to continue (midnight pizza?). If Wikipedia (and others) can get away with that and you have enthusiastic followers, at least give it a try.

I finally got fed up with something that happens on FB to the extent that I took the time to google the issue and subsequently read about your add-on in some random forum; I then followed the link and was taken to the location you most likely reference. Immediate reaction: I went (instead) to addons.mozilla.org, was thrilled to find your app, installed it, and although it shows as being functional, I have yet to find a way to fire it up. I just want the ability to make FB stick with "most recent" sorting in my timeline. I *hate* having to change it every time I go to FB (and I'm only on FB when I'm actively interacting with it). If (as it appears) there are other benefits your add-on provides which improve the FB experience, I'll be thrilled, maybe donate. :-)

I have donated to big organizations like Mozilla and LibreOffice, to the makers of freeware apps (and it's exciting to see the app become popular enough that there's a point where from version X onward you have to pay for it--if it's really that good). I've donated to a very small # of Mozilla add-on developers because there are only a few I've stuck with. Most have, over time, fallen apart for one reason or another. Writing this missive and forcing myself to think about this has me making a couple donations next.

Anyway, my post is clearly too long. I wish you the best, I just thought I'd take the time to say, hey, I really wanted to try out your add-on but if I can't get it from the definitive authority on safety and function, it's not going to happen.

Extra Folder Columns

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I like this so much I'm taking time to write a review. When I upgraded to TB 8 a lot of add-ons were disabled automatically and others by me because I couldn't remember what they were. When I opened TB 8 I was very unhappy to find that the "Total" and "Size" columns were no longer available in the Accounts pane. I have a lot of accounts and it was tremendously helpful to be able to see this info. I'd know when to compact a folder thanks to the Size column, among other things. Fortunately I figured out that it was an add-on not being implemented that was the reason for the change. I don't know why Mozilla didn't build this feature into the app--it's that good (and important!). Thank you for this terrific add-on.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.1.4).

Sun Cult

Thank you for spending the time to make Sun Cult work with FF5. The add-on is terrific and having it back is making me very happy. The number of customizable features is amazing.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.3.20110715.1-signed).

Email Notification Randomizer

As noted earlier, it seems the randomizer no longer works with the current release of tbird (.23 for me atm). I'm bumming.

Email Notification Randomizer

This is, bar none, my all time favorite add-on, both for Thunderbird and Firefox.

Thank you, Joshua, for updating it! Thank you, thank you!

I was crushed when it stopped working almost two years ago. (Why? See below.) I left it "attached" to Thunderbird all this time ... just in case. When I started Thunderbird at home this evening, leaving it in place paid off, big time.

I use Thunderbird at home and at work and while I don't find email to be annihilatingly awful, I spend a horrendous amount of time reading and writing it. I easily write nearly 5,000 messages at work alone in a year.

One of the computer-geeky things I have is a substantial collection of funny (or alarming, or ...) sound files. I've been saving them for a very long time, simply because I found them to be funny, or ... well, something. I don't have any way to hear them short of firing them up individually, and I don't have much time for that, so they mostly sit in a folder and gather virtual dust.

This add-on brings the collection to life and makes receiving mail fun: I will, more likely than not, get a good laugh with each new message. Laughter is, I think, very good for many reasons, and it's more than great when it happens under circumstances which involve a lot of pressure and cause stress. Enough said.

On a serious note, the old interface was pretty slick, but the new one is equally good for different reasons: it's small, simple and direct.

So, thank you very much again for taking the time to update this add-on. I'm sure it took more time than was readily available and probably a significant amount of that. I'd give a PayPal donation if I could. I'm bringing a flash drive full of WAV files to work tomorrow, will install the add-on, and it's neat knowing I'll be getting a real kick out of new mail at work for quite some time to come.
