A really useful addition, but the author should check how it works with different sorting methods. For example, when you use email grouping, the icons become completely disorganized. I'd be happy to give a higher rating once this problem was solved.

This functionality should be built-in in Thunderbird, but unfortunately it isn't. And unfortunately again, this seems to be the only extension that tried to tackle this, and as others have noted, it leaves a lot to be desired in terms of performance. In fact, the flickering and the general slow-down got so bad that I had to disable it. I hope the developer will fix those obvious issues.
Thanks for your feedback. The flickering is due to Thunderbird high refresh rate and I can't do much about it (or just slow down even more Thunderbird...).
However you can still use the add-on in the message panel by disabling in the settings the display in the inbox list.

The concept is good. The implementation is unfortunately bad.
It's very useful to see the custom icons on the email header and in the email list next to every email address.
However every time a folder or account is selected the entire email list will flicker, no matter how many times the icons have been downloaded previously. It seems that no cache system is in place.
Also, every time a new email or folder is selected, the CPU usage spikes in a way that it's not done when this extension is off.
I wish this extension was better engineered. This functionality is a must for email clients.
Hi,
Thanks for you feedback !
Indeed the implementation is bit tricky as the refresh rate of Thunderbird is quite high and random (I haven't figured out how it really works). Therefore the flickering is high for now.
You can for now disable the display in the inbox list in the settings.
However there is a cache system for icons, and its status is shown in settings.

Really great concept, love seeing it in action! However, there seems to be some kind of conflict with Thunderbird Conversations, resulting in the conversation view appearing as all-white.

You made my day.
I was missing this feature so very much!
Thanks a lot!

Generally works well. The occasional icon is missing. Changing between folders seems to force it to reload the icons every time which can take a few seconds, rather than remembering them.

Thank you!!! After today's update it displayed avatars in letters list.

It does what it says in the description. The developer has already said that they will try implementing profile pictures in the inbox (hopefully this will include the unified inbox as well and will have options on where this is enabled/disabled). It would also be great for the picture to be added automatically to a contact when you create a contact.
