You can drag websites straight into Speed Dial. You just need to use Tab Mix Plus to enable mouse gestures to select tabs only on the up click. This allows you to drag the address icon to Speed Dial.
This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.6.4.1-signed).To create your own collections, you must have a Mozilla Add-ons account.
