Wonderful initiative and very much appreciated - I'm seriously running out of space in Gmail...
After downloading and deleting attachments, I checked it out in Gmail in a browser, which - when checking mails where I've deleted attachments - shows as if the attachments were still there. Clicking on one (deleted) attachment then gives an error (also after refreshing the connection, which only works on the very page).
Does anyone know how long it'll take for Google to update the size of one's Gmail box? This is assuming that Google does verify if attachments are still there...
I tried out the Unattach.com which, after deletion of the few free attachments it allows, gives no erros in Gmail and manages to leave the following useful message in the mail:
---------
Removed attachments:
file-name.xxx (size: 1.5 KB → 0 B)
Information about the change:
Made with: Unattach
Date and time: 2026-01-04T18:08:46.687Z
-----------
UnAttach is in GitHub and supposedly a clever programmer (that wouldn't be me) should be able to check the code and compile a version.
Cheers!
