Personas Windows Classic Statusbar

Problem: The Personas extension adds a background image to the toolbars at the top and status bar at the bottom, but it does not show through the status bar when using the Default application theme with the Windows Classic desktop theme (the only desktop theme on Windows 2000). To see which application theme you have set, go to Tools (menu) ⇒ Add-ons ⇒ Themes (tab). If the operating system is Windows XP or later, then to see which desktop theme is set, go to desktop ⇒ context menu (right-click) ⇒ Properties ⇒ Themes (tab).

Solution: Personas Windows Classic Statusbar modifies the status bar style so the Persona footer background can show through. Requires "Personas Plus" add-on extension ≤1.5.*.

The problem is as follows: In the “Default” theme of a Mozilla application, the -moz-appearance: statusbar rule sets the background color, borders, and margins of statusbar panels to match the operating system desktop theme. The -moz-appearance CSS rules, which make an element style match the host operating system desktop theme, cannot be partially overridden. Therefore, Personas can't override the background of the statusbar panels without also removing their borders and margins matching the theme.

Bug 487711 indicates that the Personas developers are reluctant to introduce and maintain fixes specific to individual themes, and would rather take fixes that work for all themes, such as allowing -moz-appearance rules to be partially overridden. Such a fix might appear in future versions of the Mozilla platform. In the meantime...

This extension implements a fix specific to the Windows Classic theme. It finds the current theme preference at start-up, and adds a theme property to the status bar so its CSS rules apply only if the classic/1.0 theme is in use. Its CSS rules add borders and margins similar to the effect of -moz-appearance rules for the Windows Classic theme, leaving the background open for the Persona.
