And regarding the Flipping from a Gmail tab: Via mouse-click on the active tab, tab flipping should work well - the Keyboard shortcut doesn't work since Gmail itself occupies control over the Ctrl key and some different shortcuts. You might want to try disabling the keyboard shortcuts in the Gmail settings. For me, it works perfectly both by mouse and by keyboard then.
